Tess Technology was commissioned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in December 2021 to conduct a study on priority areas for AI technology development. Researchers studied domestic and global hardware and software systems for AI, analyzed existing and prospective tasks in the field of AI. The results of the large-scale market research will form the basis for the allocation of state support for AI projects.
According to the results of the study, the priority areas of AI development were named hardware and software systems in the field of computer vision, speech recognition and synthesis, decision support systems.
The research also examined such areas as natural language processing, automatic training of neural networks, but these projects were found to be less interesting for funding.
The research examined AI processors that mimic the work of the brain— neuromorphic processor “Altai”, which is being developed by Kaspersky Lab together with Motiv NT, and the IVA TPU tensor processor from IVA Technologies. About a dozen Russian manufacturers of AI processors were also analyzed.
Searching for Russian developers in the field of hardware solutions for artificial intelligence, with high competitive potential in the global market, including neuromorphic (based on the principles of the human brain) and tensor processors;
Development of proposals for the development of the domestic industry of hardware and software complexes for AI purposes, including at least three niche complexes.
Analysis of leading foreign manufacturers of hardware and software complexes and platforms for AI tasks;
Defining promising areas in the field of AI for allocation of federal grants;
Analysis of existing and prospective AI tasks;
Analysis of priority niche AI solutions.
Promising developments of neuromorphic and tensor processors simulating the human brain were identified, in particular, IVA TPU and “Altai”.
The basic priority areas for the development of AI technologies for state support were determined: computer vision, speech recognition and synthesis, recommendation and intelligent decision support systems.
Proposals for the development of the industry of hardware and software complexes for AI, to reduce administrative, legal and regulatory barriers were developed.
