Russian companies have already created competitive alternatives to foreign artificial intelligence models.

AI in agriculture

In 2023, agriculture was among the priority sectors of the Russian economy for the introduction of artificial intelligence. In this direction, AI can:

  • The vertical farm at Etnomir features an innovative solution from the domestic company City Greenhouses for localized cultivation of fruits, vegetables and berries all year round, regardless of climate and soil qualities.
  • Plenty, a San Francisco-based ag tech startup, used AI to control the environment in which plants are grown to.
  • InnoGeoTech and Innopolis University tested Teleagronom, a neural network service for operational monitoring and plant protection strategy development, in Tatarstan, the Krasnodar and Perm Territories, and the Irkutsk Region. The AI conducts multifactor analysis of field conditions.

  • The Swiss company OneSoil has developed its own platform for precision farming. The source of information about fields is satellite images.
  • Yandex and the Faculty of Biology at Moscow State University, together with a consortium consisting of Michurin Federal Research Center, Tambov State University, and VIM Agroengineering Center, have created a full-fledged crop monitoring and forecasting system in Yandex Cloud. The solution allows determining such important parameters as flowering intensity and crop abundance (per plant or per hectare).
  • Xyonix has developed a solution for crop yield forecasting based on structured and unstructured data.

AI in industry

AI is actively used in industry. It allows us to make this area more efficient and safer. Algorithms allow:

  • Russian company RT-Techpriyemka (part of Rostec Corporation) has deployed a solution for steel quality control using AI.
  • Electronic products manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group has deployed FOXCONN NxVAE AI-based quality control system on some portable device production lines in China.
  • Specialists from TVEL (Rosatom's fuel division) developed a predictive analytics system for product quality and equipment condition. The system was successfully tested at JSC Chepetsk Mechanical Plant.
  • The German company Siemens implemented a solution for predictive analysis of equipment wear and tear in the USA and South Korea.
  • Cherkizovo Group in Kashira - a fully robotized food production plant.
  • Tesla factory in Fremont, USA, where part of the production cycle is fully automated.
  • Aviastar-SP JSC implemented a system for collecting production data and monitoring industrial equipment to make management decisions.
  • Automotive parts manufacturer Faurecia built a shop floor taking into account the requirements of industrial IoT and automation; an integrated AI system ensures transparency of operations.

AI in transport

AI in transport has already been introduced in our country. This system will allow:

  • Yandex has launched testing of unmanned cabs: anyone can take a ride in one, you only need to leave a request.
  • The Chinese company Baidu Inc. launched unmanned cabs in the suburbs of Beijing.
  • Researchers at the Artificial Intelligence NTI Competence Center at MIPT have created an AI-based assistant system for rail transport dispatchers. It analyzes the movement of trains and controls it, helping to avoid accidents.
  • There are no similar technologies in the world.
  • Cognitive Pilot's Cognitive Tram Pilot active safety and driver assistance system (a joint venture between Sberbank and Cognitive Technologies), which is being installed on PC Transport Systems' streetcars. The AI detects possible dangers on the road in time and signals the driver.
  • The British ClearWay system is able to detect an incident on the road within the first 10 seconds after its occurrence.
  • A system to monitor driver fatigue is being tested and implemented. A special AI camera analyzes the driver's face based on a wide variety of data (e.g., analyzing movements, blink rate, facial expressions).
  • The German company IAV has created a digital "assistant" that can prevent the dangers associated with such emergencies and make it easier for people with pre-existing medical conditions to use the car.
